Mound Fire Has New Life-Saving Tool
Mound Fire recently purchased a LUCAS 3.1 Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) automated chest compression system, which gives firefighters an essential lifesaving tool. In 2021, the Fire Department responded to 442 medical-rescue calls, and 99 were for possible heart issues and 80 were for unconscious individuals. When CPR is needed, consistent CPR is difficult for even highly trained personal to sustain over time. The LUCAS device can be applied on a patient quickly and will deliver consistent uninterrupted automatic chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. The LUCAS 3.1 device is compatible with Cath Lab’s in hospitals, which allows them to perform lifesaving procedures including most radiological procedures. This device costs about $18,500. The purchase was made possible from funds raised at the Fire House Dance, Auxiliary fundraisers, along with private donations. A BIG thank you to the Mound Fire Department Relief Association, the Mound Fire Auxiliary and other private donors.
