In advance of Fire Prevention Week, mark your calendars for the Mound Fire Department Open House on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Mound Fire Station. We’ll have hands-on activities, including fire displays, fire truck rides and more. This will be a family fun event for all ages!
Since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9th falls. Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire than began the evening of October 8, 1871 and killed more than 250 people and destroyed more than 17,400 structures on October 8th and 9th. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) continues to be the international sponsor of the week.
